I’m honored to welcome my friend, Eliza Clayton, onto the podcast today!

Eliza comes to us from Idaho; she’s a wife to a functional dentist and mom of two boys, and she loves spending time outdoors. She has a pretty incredible story of (unexpectedly) turning her husband’s dental career into a booming, six-figure business, using social media, digital products, and more. However…Eliza grew up in a devoutly religious family, and after marrying young and having children, she felt like putting her family and their needs above everyone else is what her contribution ‘should’ be forever. Building a business (or anything of her own, really) was never on her radar. She loved supporting her husband, and she was taught to prioritize his dreams, no matter what.

After opening their dental practice in November 2022, Eliza took on the marketing aspect for the dental practice. She quickly gained a great deal of traction on Instagram, formed genuine connections with others in the health space, and even booked out their dental schedule. Eliza and her husband worked together to create digital products, courses, a podcast, and have reached the point where they need to bring another doctor into their practice. The thriving business and second income stream they’ve created for their family (in less than 2 years) is pretty mind-blowing!

In today’s episode, we dig into topics like functional dentistry, reclaiming expectations, leveraging your spouse’s career to build a six figure business, and more. Like so many of us, Eliza placed unrealistic expectations on herself as a wife and mother, and desiring anything outside of those roles left her feeling shameful and ungrateful. There’s nothing wrong with wanting more for ourselves, while still having an immense amount of gratitude for what we already have. Eliza has a passion for serving others, and she now gets to do that by educating people around the world about functional dentistry!

Eliza has learned some valuable lessons since stepping into business too. What you bring to the table does matter, and just because you don’t feel ‘qualified’ to do something, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t move forward, and take action! The success that this business has brought for Eliza and her family has tremendously impacted not only how she sees herself and her role in her family, but her overall confidence too. She and her husband have learned to work together when it comes to their household and careers, and she no longer feels guilty asking for help, or taking time for herself.

Eliza’s journey has shown her that it’s totally okay to chase those big, audacious goals, but do so in a way that doesn’t lead to complete burnout. We can do many things, but we can’t do it all, all the time (nor do we need to try) – we’ve got to replenish ourselves too!

Eliza truly blessed us with her story and infectious energy – her and I just kind of jive together! Whether you’re curious about the world of functional dentistry, working on reclaiming expectations in your own life, or trying to slow down versus constantly striving for ‘more more more’, I KNOW this conversation will deeply move you!

Eliza Clayton lives in Boise, Idaho and is a wife, mother to 2 little boys and loves adventuring outside. She has a degree in family science, but never thought she would work outside the home due to her religious upbringing. All of that changed two years ago when her husband decided to open a dental practice and needed lots of help. She did all the marketing for the practice (along with many other things as well) and ended up growing a second stream of income for their family through social media and digital products.

In this episode about functional dentistry, reclaiming expectations, and leveraging your spouse’s career to build a six figure business, we cover:

  • Eliza’s journey of supporting her husband with his start-up dental practice, to unexpectedly blowing up in the online space & creating a thriving business for her family

  • The expectations we place on ourselves regarding marriage, having kids, etc. + struggling with not finding fulfillment in what we ‘thought’ would make us happy

  • What functional dentistry is + what actually causes cavities

  • Learning to stand on your own two feet and making something your ‘own’ + finding your unique perspective that you can bring to the table

  • Realizing you don’t have to be qualified to do the thing you’re desiring to do + allowing yourself to be uncomfortable while still taking action

  • How Eliza’s success has dramatically shaped how she now sees herself, her role in her family, & her confidence + the impact it’s had on her family

  • Managing your household as a team + why asking for help is empowering, and doesn’t make you any less capable for doing so

  • Chasing your big goals and dreams without completely burning out in the process

  • Finding inspiration from others online + saying ‘yes’ to yourself when it comes to investing in yourself and new opportunities

  • Pursuing the ‘flow’, instead of being in constant pursuit of perfection and more, more, more
