As a wife and mom in agriculture (currently going through my 7th harvest), I’ve developed what I like to call ‘harvest mom hacks’. I feel like I’m on the other side now with this season not being quite as hard as it used to be, compared to when my kids were really little (I do say this as I’ll be having my 3rd baby any day now, soo maybe check back with me when I’m navigating this with a newborn)! If you’re currently in the thick of the baby and toddler years though, I see you, and I promise – it does get better!
In today’s episode, I want to share some of my harvest mom hacks I’ve figured out over time. These are things that my kids and I are doing so we’re able to actually thrive and ENJOY this special time together. Of course, every operation and what’s happening on the farm is different, so your situation may not look just like mine. I can’t stress enough how important it is to do what works best for you and YOUR family, and not compare to what others around you are doing.
Even if you aren’t in ag like I am, I hope you’ll still find these hacks useful, and be able to apply them to your own life!
In this episode about harvest mom hacks, we cover:
Why making fun plans and embracing time together outside of harvest is so important
Creating your own special routines and rituals that you can look forward to
Reading a chapter book to your kids before bed to help with a smoother and calmer bedtime
Turning on a music playlist for your kids to dance and be silly (we personally love Koo Koo Kangaroo on YouTube) while you’re doing kitchen clean-up
Really adjusting your expectations and giving yourself grace in this season
Letting your kids sit in the cab/equipment with your spouse or partner, and taking a walk and/or doing something by yourself for a bit
